Hey, everyone! As I mentioned previously, I will be using this platform to collect information for a project I have been working on and am looking for willing participants to engage in a brief interview (likely no more than 5 or 10 questions). It shouldn’t be all that time consuming and you need only answer the questions which you are comfortable with answering.
I am looking for two types of participants:
- Sex workers who practice witchcraft, and/or identify as pagan – this applies to secular witches, as well!
- Sex workers who identify as Christian, Jewish, or Muslim and do not practice witchcraft.
Christian, Jewish and Muslim sex workers who practice witchcraft are also welcome!
This extends to all genders, orientations, races, classes, and most types of sex work. If you think you may fit, but aren’t entirely sure, feel free to contact me for clarification!
All information you provide can be presented anonymously upon request (through the changing of your name, location, etc.), though for the interview, I will need you to provide some information that could be considered private. If you have questions, concerns, etc. I’d be more than happy to answer them before you would like to commit completely.
Please contact me here @qedavathegrey (preferably via message, not inbox – just so it’s easier to communicate and record) or at my e-mail: qedava.the.grey@gmail.com – the earlier the better, but the official deadline is April 30th, 2017.
If you cannot participate, I would very much like if you would reblog this to help me out!
Thank you all so much!

Feeding the Dark Serpent
There is Dark – there is Light – there is Balance

To humans born was vice – recounted in the form of sin. In
each there is a darkness, ever-present and lurking at the borderline of our own
“morality” – intrinsic or instilled – and like the head of the hydra, from the
slain virtue come two vices in its stead. The Bible speaks of them – both as
they are customarily known and the antecedents of such – as the cardinal sins.
- Lust
- Greed
- Gluttony
- Sloth
- Wrath
- Envy
- Pride
This is the Dark Serpent – coiled about the body and
weighing on the soul, grounding it thusly to the physical world in which we
exist. It is our tether and our anchor so that we might remain bound –
necessary so that we might make our earthy contribution and learn our lessons
tasked. Without it – and these primal instincts – we ascend. Just as without
its compatriot – we would descend into the darkness. To be human is not to cast
of either – but to appease them both. This is the Balance: this is what keeps
us and this is what solidifies the plane – the Middle Ground.
I do not believe in evil – or rather – I believe that evil
is the creation of man; the condemnation of our own primal aspect, which lashes
back with the vehement will of survival. Evil lies in the neglect of man – the denial
of the primal and the healthy exhibition of such. The Black Serpent must be fed
– but only to appease it – so that it might return to its glutted torpor.
This can be done mundanely – through the unabashed expression
of lust, treating yourself to something decadent, superfluous, relaxing and
indulging in nothing but your own will, letting out your aggression and disdain
in constructive (or controlled, destructive) manners. The key is to allow
yourself these things without guilt –
for shame is antithetical – but to do so in moderation. These practices can and
should be easily integrated, even for the most righteous – for they are constructive
to experience, to mortality.
This being said, there is another ways to feed the Serpent –
one that can prove even more freeing.
To Perform
Go to a dark room – this is where the Serpent resides, where
it feels at home – and sit in the darkness. The key is not to simply sit
listlessly in the dark, but to allow yourself to connect to the darkness, feel
its inky touch upon your skin. If you enjoy/prefer visualization – imagine a
caduceus around which are intertwined a black and white snake. Call to the Dark
Serpent and watch as it unravels itself and comes to you. Search then your mind
for those thoughts of anger, lust, rage, envy and feed them one by one to the
Serpent and letting the leave you. Allow the Serpent to twist about your body –
allowing it to devour the negativity as it sees fit, and when you have been
cleansed – command that it return. Watch it slither back from whence it came,
and coil once more about the caduceus. You have been freed, and the Serpent
fed.
This same principle can be applied thusly to the Light
Serpent, as well, feeding it not with negativity, but giving it your great joys
and good memories so that it might keep them safe. It is fed not with Hate, but
Love – and in times of great darkness or sadness, feed the Light Serpent so
that it might lift you from the bowels of grief.
For those who work magic without the aid of deities or
spirits, these Serpents may also be employed to act as servants to your will –
enacting magic. Send the Light Serpent to bring forth a new love or the Dark to
feed on maladies so that they might heal.
Happy feeding,

I can even adapt them to any price range/location. That’s always fun for me, anyway.
Demons, Devils & Conjuration
Not so long ago, I knew well a wise-witch who practiced a wide variety of crafts – namely Deistic Satanism, Chaos Magic and others along the same ilk. Over the time we spent together, she imparted on me a number of new skills. One of which I will cover here.
Conjuration;
Unakin to the common concept thereof (to bring forth that which already exists, or to summon), Conjuration in her eyes existed as a form of creation – or more accurately channeling energies to bring forth a tulpa being. She called this Conjuration of a Demon, whereas I saw opportunity for a great number of creative possibilities. Our interpretation of Demons matched in part, but I (believing in no inherent moral dualism within the Universe) have a different view of what are thought to be Demons.
The Christian perceptions of Demons fits more with Lost, Tainted Spirits – whether sentient or not (poltergeist activity). Fractured pieces of a collective soul, left to wallow in a self-induced hell that inevitably transforms them literally into the monsters they see themselves to be. Some can be returned from this state, while others can only be returned to Creation. When I refer to Demons, these are not the ones I reference.
When I say Demons, I mean entities of the Darkness. As aforementioned, I believe in no inherent moral duality, that is not to say I do not divide beings into groups with commonalities. Demons exist as those beings who favor the Darkness and all that it represents. As such, they are no more morally impure than any other being, they exist to serve a function just as anything does. They devour like energy. The Lowly, the Dark, the Unknown – things often associated with Christian demon iconography. Most importantly, however, I believe opposite their ideologies. This beings do not cause these disturbances, these beings are drawn to them – to devour them. In a sense, they’re Cosmic Housekeepers, set to return the Dark to the Dark. “Demon problems/possessions” are (at least when they’re actually Demons and not the aforementioned Spirits) not the cause of anguish, the anguish is the cause for their presence. Places, people, or things that exude “dark” energies (fear, hate, anger, even some forms of lust, etc.) attracts these beings who are tasked with dispelling this. However, given the portrayal and superstitions of the Western Mind, their presence can cause fear in the mortal mind, and thereby, a loop can ensue and keep these beings locked in the proximity of the energy source.
It is these beings I have conjured, for they are made of precisely what they dispel. The lowly emotions. As such, the conjuration thereof requires 1) the ability to express these emotions constructively and pointedly as a form of creation or 2) the collection of these forces and energies within a given space, place, or object to bring forth a Demon of your own creation to tend the space or heed your desires.
I’ve always found it very helpful to have something to bridge the planes, something as simple as a rock or a sort of vessel to “tie” the being to, and allowing it access to the physical as well as the astral and mental planes. Conjurations is the balance and alignment of the planes for long enough to align the mental, with the astral, with the physical to use the converging energies to bring forth an entity of your own creation – tasked with your desire or the “duties” associated with the energy gathered. For example, if they are constructed of Light, Dark, Natural, Spirit/Dead, etc. Whichever is used and gathered will determine the inclination of the being manifested.
I will not note the process in detail, unless requested. But if you choose to attempt to do so, remember to bridge the planes, and never forget the power of a Name.
Cleansing (Without Sage)
I hate sage. I can’t stand the smell, I don’t like the taste, or the energetic feel. Perhaps it’s because of my taste for the… Darker arts, but regardless, I don’t use the stuff. I know what you’re all thinking, “However will I cleanse my house or my possessions without wafting the stench of Thanksgiving dinner over everything I own, thought of owning, or accidentally spit on once some many years ago.”
Easy. There are so many other options.
I’m, unabashedly, what I like to call an “herbs, sticks, stones and bones” witch – in that I mean, I don’t do crystals, or metals (often, though I do love copper), or anything that has to be mined really – salts and minerals being my exception. I also believe in using LOCAL herbs. Sure, you can go out to the super market and pick up this or that, order whatever your heart desires online, but I’ve always believed that a witch has certain responsibilities to her/his community and a witch has always been tasked with working with what is at their disposal.
There’s something meaningful about going out into whatever nature you find yourself in and identifying and collecting that which is around you. It ties you to that land on which you work and connects you to the people with whom you share it with.
That being said, I try to identify and collect all of my own herbs from here in my region. Given that I live in a national forest (and have never been opposed to trespassing on public or private property in the name of gathering what I need) I have roughly 100 different herbs/plants/etc (I’m including seeds and fungi) all of which might serve a myriad of purposes.
Digressing back to cleansing, my preferred sage alternatives:
Red or Yellow or White Rose Stems (I gather them in a bundle of roughly a dozen and dry them completely) – can be used in place of sage, no matter what any “correspondence” would say; simply light the ends and smudge as you would with sage, though relighting is necessary more regularly than with leafier matter.
Strands of dried, hot peppers hung above each door to keep the wayward from entering; can be used in addition to brick dust, barberry and step-wash if you’re REALLY trying to keep someone or something out.
Floor washes are PERFECT for cleansing and laundry lists of different recipes will be given you by any number of rootworkers, mambos, or any practitioners of what I like to call Foot-Track Magic. Used to draw as much as they are to ward. Vinegars and spirits are your best friend, though.
In fact, vinegar in itself can be AMAZING for cleansing (and cleaning – but this isn’t a domestic arts column) when used alone or with baking soda (inorganic). Which you can mix to have elementary, chemical reaction fun, or used separately.
Cinnamon (not cassia, make sure you’re getting actual cinnamon – this is one imported resource I never go without, because it’s good for almost anything) is great in both washes and dusts, even in loose incense (don’t bother with sticks or cones, you can never trust what goes in).
For those who prefer the inorganic, I recommend:
Epsom Salt (unscented; general cleansing; wet with just a touch of alcohol, then lit on fire and wafted thusly – can even be placed in jars and put into each room to collect the mounting grossness)
Equal parts: Black Salt (Kala Namak, none of that lava salt BS), Sulfur Powder and Table Salt; for matters of troublesome spirits; sprinkle, sweep/vacuum, and dispose of the collected powder at the edge of your property or in a nearby cemetery.
As mentioned, baking soda, paired with regular salt and left to collect unpleasantness works beautifully. This can even be added to water to make a step-wash or harness gathered negativity for whatever means you deem fit.
This is only a short list of possibly options, but for those others who aren’t fond of the toxic smell of sage, I’ve done my best to offer simple, and accessible solutions for nearly anyone in any given locale.
What’s more, most of these actually REMOVE smell instead of attempting to cover it up! Which I think probably says a lot about their nature comparatively.
Hope to have helped,

The Spirit Cauldron;;
A vessel dedicated to Yayá Rosa Caveira, blessed in Holy Fire in the Little Sea that is her Queendom. I met her at the Crossroads, and danced with her in the ring of fire.Always a work in progress.

Symbolically, human cultures have painted the spider with certain overarching tropes. There a few beings (save snakes) that conjure up such a collection of frantic and frightful emotions as our eight-legged (often unwanted) house guests. Time has been unkind to the arachnid, nowadays being portrayed as horrific giant beasts or appearing in droves in any B-Rated horror movie. With that being said, however, mankind has long feared and emulated the spider’s unique brand of strengths.
Similar ideas appear throughout the world in regards to spiders, often portrayed as expert weavers (as in the Greek origins of Spiders and the nomenclature thereof — Arachne // also the Mayan Spider Goddess at Teotihuacán, thought later to be adapted by the Aztecs in the form of Xochiquetzal), as well as creative forces (Spider Grandmother in a number of Native American tribes) in regards not only to tapestry and worldly crafts, but the creation of the Stars and the Universe.
It is not hard to see why our ancestors looked onward to the spider and beheld such great beauty and strength in their art. They created their own world, so was it such a stretch to assume that they wove the silken threads that hold the cosmos together? I think not. Spiders being illusory beings with a great patience is another facet garnering worship. While many breeds do in fact hunt prey, the archetypal spider lies in wait for wayward insects to fall victim to their snares. At once, they leap into action to ensure their next meal, obliterating their prey nearly completely. They are a patient, reclusive and humble animal, in a way uniquely their own.
Another interesting facet to the spider mythos is a strange correlation to prostitution (perhaps not so strange, considering the ensnaring) across the globe. In Japan, there is the dualistic Jorōgumo (portrayed as both malevolent and benevolent, depending on location), a spider spirit-being that can take the form of an alluring female or a unassuming child that lures honorable men and warriors astray to feed on them. Alternately, she is a being known to fetch drowning men from the depths of waterfall basins. This spider correlation to water and prostitution, however, does not appear solely in Japan.
Actually, the Aztec goddess of prostitution, fertility and craftsmanship, Xochiquetzal, also correlates to this mythos. As previously mention, it is believed that Xochiquetzal is an Aztec reinvention of an earlier Mayan Goddess — portrayed most famously in Teotihuacán (colloquially known as the Great Spider Woman). Assuming she is the base for Xochiquetzal, spider connotations are easily assigned. Curiously enough, (in a story vaguely similar to the Greek Persephone) Xochiquetzal is said to have been abducted from both her husband and twin brother by Tezcatlipoca, a multi-faced God central to Aztec beliefs. One important role of Tezcatlipoca was that he reigned as chief God of Sorcery and Obsidian — an extremely important stone/glass to the Aztecs. In fact, it was used as a took for divination when placed at the bottom of a water vessel similar to “scrying.” The idea behind which being that one could see the “fire” within the “water.” Xochiquetzal was widely held to be a Goddess associated with butterflies (which were thought to be related to fire within the Aztec mythos), her predecessor connected to spiders (related to water, because waves refract and reflect light much like a spider’s web). Thereby, the fire within the water was described symbolically as a butterfly caught within a spiders web, and therein lied the means through which divination could be used.
I have found that spiders can teach us great wisdom, that of both patience and tact. We have the ability to “build our own world” and be the gatekeeper to those who may enter safely, otherwise risking destruction. She — as I have found spiders to be portrayed more often feminine than masculine — too, may reassure beliefs in fate and destiny, the invisible strands that bind all matter and spiritual paths. She reminds us that patience brings reward to those ill-equipped to bull-headedly manifest our own destiny. She is at once a being of youthful femininity, unabashed by sexual endeavors, a figure of fertility and the power of feminine wiles, and also a wise and understanding beacon, ensuring that even when all things seem to fall beyond your favor, with patience what you seek will come.
So, too, is she a symbol of resilience. When a spider’s web has been destroyed, it will buckle down and begin again, in the hopes that the world it creates will be even better than the last.
When next tested with the presence of a web-weaving spider, think before you swat. Spiders are docile beings with poor eye-sight and the animalistic urge for survival. Only when prompted with no other course of action will they strike, and even then, it will be most likely of little consequence to you. Even the most commonly maligned spider, the Black Widow, will not strike unless disturbed, and even then only a 5% chance of sustaining even slightly less than inconvenient maladies. Do not destroy something so beautiful as the keepers of fate, they are only attempting to ensure their own survival by cleaning up pest insects near you.
Youthful and elusive, creative and wise, Spider Magic gives you the chance to reshape your own destiny or look to where the strands might take you. Build a world around you over which you have control, and even when forces conspire to tear down all that you have built, remember the promise of new beginnings, erect a world even more beautiful and awe-inspiring than the last.
The Ignus Faatus Curse
Things You’ll Need;;
- A bonfire (kindled with willow and charcoal — actual charcoal)
- An Ash tree limb
- (3) or (6) iron nails or (1) railroad spike
- A scant handful of sulfur
- (Optional) A personal affect of he/she you are cursing
Affix the personal affect with the iron nails or railroad spike, all while thinking of the person you wish to inflict devastation.
With the branch, trace counterclockwise (3) times, then turn on your heels and trace over the line (6) times clockwise while reciting the following incantation. Do not falter in concentration, and focus your mind like a dagger on your victim.
Feel the coals beneath your feet,
The nails beneath your skin,
You will seek the sun,
But like the will in the swamp,
It will bury you,
In the Earth,
And the rotted tendrils,
Of the Ash,
Will rectify my soul,
You have walking in my shadow,
And now it must consume you,
Do not fear the Reaper,
For my will is swift,
And she the only recourse,Willow, willow, will-o’-the-wisp,
The night is setting in,
Come ye now,
Of Ash and Fire,
Justify my soul,Willow, willow, will-o’-the-wisp,
Fulfill, fulfill my darkest desire,
*with the final words, toss the limb into the fire*
Ignus Faatus,
Locutus Sum.
*toss in the handful of sulfur — and stand back, sulfur dioxide and the like*
Allow the fire to burn out, tending to it, making sure to allow all of the ash limb to burn. Retrieve the nails and either drive them in the yard of your victim, or tie them together with a length of twine, wrap them in black fabric and put them in a saltbox until your will is done.
