The Exorcism: When All Other Purification Rites Fail

image

No, you won’t find any Bible verses for contrition and
renunciation here – but rather something more pointed, perhaps something even
more violent, but when all else fails: it is what must be done.

Let it be noted
that this ritual is not one of uncrossing – as tricks and malefica can be
removed in a much simpler manner – but a solution when a great weight has been
brought about by the witch him/herself. It is for those who jumped preemptively
into breeches a size too big and are now haunted and have become a feast of
energy for parasitic beings. It must also be mentioned that this ritual is for
those beings that are unrelenting – when all other avenues have been attempted.
The reason being: the spirits herein I recommend can be very violent when
mounting/possessing he/she in need of cleansing. It is for this reason that
they are so well suited for the job, but in a weakened state (as many Sources
are) it can further compromise their system.

The Spirits of which I speak are Pomba Gira Lixeira, known
for her ability to engulf all that is malignant and unsavory without soiling
herself, and Lwa Marinette Bwa Chech, she who started the Haitian Revolution
and brought forth her people from their shackles. If you have never worked with
either, I don’t recommend you start now. If you are unfamiliar with the nuances
of Quimbanda or Voduo, this is not the
time to start. This should be done only
by (or in the company of) a seasoned practitioner
. It is possible that you
may become mounted first – if you are unfamiliar with the reality of such,
there is no way you will be able to complete the ritual and may well end up
worse off than the person you are attempting to help.

As such, I will post their symbols, but will not detail the
offerings and means by which they might be manifested.

The ritual is as follows:

Ingredients

  • Rum – dark or spiced, flavored with chile peppers if you see
    fit
  • An egg – one from a black hen is best, though if one cannot
be found, store bought is fine (I feel like the Barefoot Contessa)
  • Water – collected from a creek, river, lake or ocean and
    poured into a glass
  • Pine Tar – if you can find it
  • Dusting Powder – a blend of black salt, sulfur, and cascarilla
(other ingredients may be added, such as powdered rose or charcoal/ash depending
    on whom you work with)
  • Offerings/Traditional Items Associated with the Spirits
  • (Optional: Palm Fronds, Willow Whisk, or other lashing
    implements)

Instructions

This ritual is best
completed with at least two people (not including the one being “exorcised”).
That isn’t to say it isn’t possible with one, but can be a bit tricky.

Allow the Source to sit while you prepare the offerings and
mark the lines. Explain to them that this time should be used as a time to
relax, and to prepare for the coming storm. If they will have it, offer them a
tea of chamomile and ginger to sooth them. When all things are in accordance,
begin, asking the Spirits to present. Music can act as gateway.

With the Source sitting before you, kneel and place their
palms upward, taking them by the wrists. It is important to allow the Spirit to
move thusly from you to them and even more important that they remain
receptive. Reassurance is key. While their presentation can be violent, it is a
cleansing violence. Direct the Spirit into them – rolling like fire through you
and into them. When you feel the Spirit take to the new host, it may be
necessary to bind their wrists to the chair. Marinette can be particularly
violent in the hands – of course, binding presents with its own set of risks.
It’s very much up to you whether you think it right or not – and dependent on
how closely you work with the spirits in question.

Mark the Source’s forehead with pine tar (if you have it)
and gently sprinkle a pinch of Dusting Powder upon them, reciting something to
the extent of:

(Spirit Name), deliver
this child from the hands of his/her/their transgressor,
Cleanse the Spirit
with your fire and devour that which feasts upon this soul,
Purge from them the
interloper – for you sit upon their head
And now, within the
confines of this body –
Oh, (Spirit Name) –
who reigns

Take the rum into your mouth and spray it through your teeth
in a fine mist over the Source and sprinkle them again with powder, proceeding
with your reading:

(Spirit Name) –
Deliver (Name of Source)
Deliver them thusly
from this evil

Repeat the misting and dusting.

Feast upon that which
feasts upon them –
For I present it as
offering –
Let it feed the bowels
of your own existence
And let your great
fire cleanse this man/woman/person
For you are the spirit
emetic –

You may use the fronds or whisk to lash the Source – but caution need be taken, as while during the possession they will not respond to pain in the same way – it is best if reserved for the most dire of circumstances ESPECIALLY if working with Marinette, as it will infuriate her IMMENSELY

Repeat the above until you feel the destructive presence
give way to the force of Marinette or Maria, at which point, thank them for
their service. Place the egg within the glass of water and hold it above the
Source’s head, commanding (respectfully) that the Pomba Gira or Lwa depart.
Ordinarily for possession this should not be needed, but given the compromised
state of the Source at such a time, it is most surely necessary. Fulfill your
arrangement with the Spirit at a following time – as is customary. If you bound
them, release them, allowing them to relax as they will undoubtedly be
exhausted. Care for them as best you can – the rest, after, is up to them. Sleep
and hearty food is recommended – as well as healing and purifying herbs in both tea and bath.

After the ritual, the egg should be cracked into the water and the mixture returned to creek, lake, river, ocean from whence the water came.

Light a candle. Light a few.

The Dead Radio

I find that working with the dead is much like finding a radio station. Most people in our Western society simply tune into their usual stations – it is not that they are unable, it’s simply complacency, a matter of comfort. It is the familiar in which they find solace.

But some of us, be we who have a predisposition might tune in easily. It is merely another station we find comfort in.

Some of us, grow curious and scan – only to hear a muffle of singing that peaks your interest. Only through further tubing nudge the signal be clear.

And finally, there are those who, upon happenstance, find themselves out of range to listen to their usual stations – those who are forced to hunt for something else for fear of silence.

For those of you who seek to work with the dead, and are still yet unable, keep scanning. And when you can listen closely, you wear hear the break in the static and need only fine tune. Only once you hear a brief whisper might you know what to listen for.

I know this will probably be an unpopular “opinion,” but despite all the things I’ve read or visual depictions I have ever seen of her, this is how my Yayá – Rosa Caveira – appears to me.

Most often, I should say. She has appeared in any number of guises, if you will. But most constant, she comes to me as an older woman, very vibrant in color (not at all dressed in the somber tones or black), bedecked in jewelry of semi-precious stones and draped in shawls and kerchiefs. She appears neither black nor white, but with worn and leathery copper skin (more akin to a Mexican or eastern Indian complexion).

I drew her with a closed mouth, but she often smiles a toothy smile – all of her teeth gold and gums stained black with either smoke or indigo.

Her eyes – as you’ll see, I drew her without irises or pupils, because this is how I portray spirits so that I may differentiate spirit from mortal – are dark and sparkly with kindness and humor, heavy with laugh lines and crow’s feet.

Her voice is the most wonderful, I think. Deep and throaty, husky, but sweet. She has this mischievous humor and infectious laugh – though she is very reserved to speaking. She speaks only when absolutely necessary, instead choosing to observe and guide.

As an energy, she has this low (VERY LOW) crackling warmth, like the last embers of a fire, exuding on you a complete sense of security and trust, as if to say: I am here, I am watching, I am helping, I trust you to know what is right.

Perhaps that is why she appears to me as a grandmother, as my grandmothers – all of them – have raised me most, and have about them a similar energy.

From her I have come to be, but she is not as fiercely protective, as she has seen enough to know that given ample opportunity, I will do what is right for myself and she is there to support any decision I make.

She tells me nothing, and instead shows me the way so that I may find the truth for myself.

And to her, I extend the utmost gratitude and love. That is why I have written this, though I know that she already knows.

Thank you, Yayá, for all that you have done and all that you will surely do. I love you dearly.

Earlier I was walking through my cemetery in which I convene with Samedi, and there, laying in the thick of grass nearest the central cross, I found this die turned to the 6 face hidden under the melting snow.

Curious, I think.

Especially since the cemetery has been inaccessible since the snow and ice. And I was there the night before the snow came.

Breathing Life

Dolls and poppets are utilized across many faiths, however often witches neglect to “breath life” into them. Not doing so doesn’t make them wholly ineffective, however going the extra step really amps up the potency, especially when using it as sympathetic magic or creating a protective being! It’s a relatively simple step, but highly dependent upon which path you follow. I’ll briefly cover my methodology.

Foremost, I would like to specify the difference between the two types of dolls I utilize. One being sympathetic magic, the one most often thought of when people think of dolls and witchcraft. Voodoo dolls. This is a misnomer, as the common portrayal off voodoo dolls in media have skewed the original purpose of such dolls. Originally the dolls were used by practitioners not to affect people, but as a guide to the sufferers ailments and treatments – more akin to a “medical chart.” However, they have since (and really, in European magical traditions for centuries) been used to heal or harm a specific victim in which the doll was made to their likeness. This is a sympathetic doll, made in their likeness, usually incorporating some sort of personal affect (hair, clothing, blood, etc.).

The second type, and the kind I most often use, are dolls not based on any individual, but instead exist to act as a guardian of sorts or facilitate change/growth/health/etc. These are unique and very much a product of your imagination. Create them to be whatever you see fit.

That being said, let’s begin;;

Sympathetic Dolls: Begin by first, stitching the doll together in the likeness of he/she you wish to influence. You can be as general or as specific as you want – matching hair, eyes, facial features, build are all common concepts. Traditionally the dolls were stuffed with Spanish Moss (most probably due to the abundance in the American South) however you can stuff it with anything you have on hand. If you have anything of the persons, now would be the time to use it, hair can be wrapped and stuffed in the doll, pieces of their clothes can be folded and placed inside, blood should be on a scrap of cloth, dried and then added.

Once the doll is complete and you’re satisfied with its image (in truth, dolls have been made out of anything and everything, the only crucial step is the following), you must give it life. For sympathetic dolls, this can be as simple or difficult as you wish. I prefer to take the simple route and sit with the doll and focus intently on the person you wish to connect to it. I then mentally stitch the spirit of the person to the doll (either at the heart or at the feet – as a short of shadow). Vocalize your intent and revel in your creation.

Conceptual Dolls/Guardians: These are my personal favorites to create, in all honesty. I find poppets to be a lot of extra work, however they are useful in remote healing/hexing. These, as I mentioned, are beings of your thoughts. Tulpas, in a way. Begin by gathering your materials and ideas. Create a doll to symbolize whatever you wish to accomplish. As far as this tutorial goes, I’ll use the example of a Guardian or a doll for protection. It can look however you wish, and be as simple as sticks tied together, to the most intricately created doll you could muster. I, personally, stick with a small doll (no bigger than 8 or 10 inches) with yarn hair, simple clothing and a painted face. I often stuff mine with herbs associated with my will, as well as batting and sometimes stray scraps of fabric.

After your doll is complete, take it to the Crossroads. It can be a door, a gate (I use the gate of a remote cemetery near me), a cemetery, even a maternity ward if you’re that committed and light a candle. Fill your mind with intention, then connect with the energy of your crossroads. Feel the planes converge, and bend this erratic energy to your will, funneling it through your consciousness and into your doll. See the energy shape, bend, coalesce into a being of your intent and give it a Name, as there is much power in a Name. Connect its energy to our physical plane by allowing it refuge within the fabric of the doll you have created. Leave a gift at the Crossroads, and blow out your candle, sealing in the doll’s spirit. Use it as you desire, but do not neglect it.

Thus ends this tutorial!

Best of luck,

Cats and Dogs

This spell is used to 1) keep a lover from straying, 2) break a couple up by causing friction between them.

Collect a handful of dog hair and cat hair, making sure to keep them separate. It’s best to collect hair from two animals that very much dislike one another, so if you happen to have a dog and a cat that get along well, look elsewhere.

On a sheet of paper, write the following:

Come ‘round, come ‘round,
Black cat bone,
Stray cat, stray cat,
Go on home,
Snap your neck,
Under dog tooth groan,
Stray cat, stray cat,
Go on home,
Sticks and stones,
Sticks and stones,
Flay the slack,
Sink to the bone,

Come ‘round, come ‘round,
Stray cat roam,
Hound’s tooth, hound’s tooth,
To the bone.

Fold the paper 5 times, and arrange the bag in the following manner:

Dog Hair xx Folded Paper xx Cat Hair

To this add powdered slug (salt/borax a slug, collect it after it has shriveled almost entirely. Remove from the elements, allow it to dry completely— in the oven, if you’re in a hurry – then powder it)

Collect the corners and tie the bag with a length of black string/yarn/twine. After, drag the bag through a “snake water” (the peroxide/water mixture used to strip the flesh away from the bones of a snake) and roll it in salt, then allow it to crystallize. Seal the bag with black wax and keep tucked away until your desires come to fruition.

Love Me Tender Gris-Gris

Things You’ll Need;;

(1) 6 in. to 8 in. square of blue fabric

(6) dried rose petals (red for love, yellow for friendship, pink for romance, peach for adoration, or any combination thereof)

(1) slightly smaller square of white fabric adorned with your blood

A needle and thread

A length of twine

White chalk

(Optional) Personal affect of he/she you wish to influence

Instructions;;

  • Take your bloodied cloth (in what matter you bleed yourself depends on your preference) and your needle and thread. With your needle and thread, stitch the name of you would be lover into the cloth while intently focusing on them, making sure to use enough thread so that their first and last time can be sewn without have to stop and add more thread.
  • After you have readied your bloody cloth, with the white chalk sketch the following symbol onto the blue square of fabric.
  • Place the bloodied cloth atop the symbol, then add your six rose petals one by own, still focusing on the person and speaking aloud what you seek from the ritual.
  • When they have all been added, gather the corners on of blue fabric and tie it with your twine around the “neck.”

The ritual is complete. You can carry the gris-gris around by wearing it or keeping it in your purse/pocket or you can keep it near your bed. Remember to “feed” the bag (holding it and thinking longingly for your beloved). Do this until the ritual comes to fruition, after which it can be buried near your home.

You can bless it in the name of Erzulie Fréda or Pomba Gira Cigana, if you are familiar with the procedure.
