Hello everyone. Most of you know me as Babe Field, and some of you know I’ve relocated to Atlanta after being displaced by my family. 2 weeks ago, while walking from my apartment complex to walk to the bus stop, I was struck by a motor vehicle which rolled a stop sign. The couple operating it tried to flee the scene but I managed to get very basic information of the girlfriend of the driver, or so I thought. I was given a fake name and number and illegitimate insurance information. I’ve since contacted local authorities but since I didn’t call them at the scene of the crime and instead went straight to the hospital, it’s been very complicated trying to piece together information for a case to find the assailant. I am a young, black, queer person supporting myself without insurance and relying on public transportation, and have been slapped with an enormous hospital bill for $1,205.31 (and there will be further complications after my follow up appointment) which I simply can’t cover myself with only my job waiting tables in a run-down, racist hole in the wall where I struggle to get hours as it is and skipping meals hasn’t helped me save up very much towards it and I need as much energy as I can get currently. I’ve tried contacting my parents for funding to cover the expenses and they’ve been unresponsive and this is my 5th day without work as I’ve been unable to walk properly to fulfill everyday duties. It’s taken me so long to be open about this with Tumblr because I know there are many other people in trying times, but this is very dire to me. This is taking an enormous toll on my health, physically, emotionally, and mentally, and if there’s anything that you can spare to go towards this, I’d greatly appreciate it. I think I am going to take up my friend’s offer on her little old desk and use it. I’m debating on sanding it down and painting it if I’m allowed to. What is a good desk color? I cannot deal with these tension headaches from looking down all the time. I am a big baby. I think I go through more salves than my customers combined. I’m also pretty sure either exhaustion has caught up to me or I’m coming down with something. Since that smattering of hoopla is over, I’m going back to work.

I redo my desk on a regular basis and while my absolute favorite was the time I covered it with Magic the Gathering cards…I think what would be soothing is very personal.

Currently my desk is a spring green/key lime color and I love it because bright colors help my brain out. I need to repaint soon and I’m probably going to go with some shade of yellow.

Since you look at computer screens a lot which probably does not help the headaches I’d recommend warm colors on the darker end of the spectrum. A dark orange, red, or a sienna color of brown. Maybe paint it the same color as stained cherry wood? Screens (unless you use apps) use a lot of blue light so you may want to look into colors that counteract that effect.

Though if you wanted to stay in the blue spectrum I’d recommend lavender as a color (real lavender so the blue-purple color of the blooms). You like to use it and your brain will associate the desk color with your salves/other work.

See, I thought about a darker red because most of the accents in my space are dark red. Then, again, I thought of lavender. You know what goes horribly together? Dark red and lavender :c

I changed the photo! And thank you – both for the compliment and how civilly you pointed out my thoughtless use of the photo. As far as my influences on the matter, it’s (as most of my craft) a happy blend of tradition and intuition (heavy on the latter). I trust my gut above all and it never seems to lead me astray. Perhaps its a form of memory – like Plato’s Forms, but regardless, its my tried and true way.
