Dream

I had the most interesting dream last night, and while I can’t remember all the specifics, I distinctly remember coming upon two nuns.

They were striking, dressed in the full garb – black habits trailing, and they came to me, seemingly ageless. While their faces had tell-tale signs of age, the wrinkles seemed to fade away, revealing a youthful radiance, but without losing the depth of wisdom in their eyes. They bickered amongst themselves, sometimes playfully, sometimes sharply, but it was clear they had known each other for a very long time.

The two led me to the edge of the woods and removed their head-coverings to reveal hair. One, whose face had since been completely stripped on any sign of age. She looked almost angelic and I remember recognizing her hairstyle as that of a vestal virgin, organized in 8 locks, hanging long and wound into coiled braids at the crown in the most wonderful gray color. Salt and pepper really.

The other had the most vibrant red hair, though it was in a hairstyle I wasn’t familiar with. It was almost like braids, and not locks, perhaps twists. I’m not sure, I was just so stricken with the color of her hair.

When we came to the edge of the forest, they turned to me and offered me a smile and I followed them in, trailing behind those silver braids.

It was interesting. If you have any idea what the hairstyle might have been, I’d love to hear.

I’m currently in an old-fashioned stand off with a squirrel with the haunting echo of I’m Gonna Be by the Proclaimers playing softly in the distance.

Those are bird feeders, and you’ve no wings. This is one of those fuckers who throws walnuts at my windows. I can tell.

Keep us informed of your progress…
You must prevail, the fate of the world…
Screw the world… still keep us informed… ;-D

I have battled… Many of my most trusted and valiant warriors have fallen to the blood-thirsty, fluffy-tailed barbarians. They are relentless in their pursuit. My heart aches for all those we have lost and I fear we fight a losing battle. Like the great hydra, every head severed, one – ten, grow back in its place. Can we go on? Can we win? Can we even survive?

They’re coming now… I may not return… Tell my cigarettes I love them….

Just in case you didn’t make it back, I smoked your cigs. Saved you one for your return and will replace them when I see you… good luck!

I would want you to have them. I’ll put it in the will! After making a lot of grumbling noises and shaking my fist they took off, so all is well!

What if a specific spirit you wish to communicate with doesn’t have a grave to collect dirt from but rather their remains rest in a columbarium? Do you have a suggestion on other ways to leave offerings and connect with them?

@nama-fucking-ste

Well, I suppose it depends on which type of columbarium is it: indoor/outdoor, public/private, etc. A public, outdoor one is quite simple, offerings can easily be left and nearby soil accessed, so I’m going to presume the one you speak of is either indoor or private. There are a number of options!

If you can get away with it, you may leave flowers or other token offerings in a designated location – named in that person’s honor – and return to retrieve them after a period of time. Alternately, if you happen to have light fingers you might be able to lift a little something from the location (it needn’t be anything fantastic, a stone, a chipped piece of plaster or granite/marble, etc.) and name it. In town we have a rather dilapidated mausoleum and I have a number of pieces of chipped limestone from its facade. These may then be used (mixed with graveyard dirt, if the ritual calls) in workings or to erect a spirit altar or totem.

If you seek to build a bridge or connect with the spirit, I recommend the latter – constructing either a small altar and/or creating a Spirit Vessel. It can be a grand or as simple, as small or large as you wish or can accommodate. It can be on broad display or hidden away in a closet, but ideally it should have things that belonged to them – in life – as well as things that remind you of them: favorite flowers, their perfume/cologne/scent, even their favorite food may be left as offering (though, I’d recommend not including that in a Spirit Vessel). I find that – in working with the dead – that earth and soil are integral, especially for a Spirit Vessel. It is the medium of life and death, and whether from their grave or not, it’s a must in my book. You can, as stated above, mix the offerings left with graveyard dirt and use this as the foundation for your Vessel. Traditions vary on offerings, from spiced rum to (unfermented) juice, from padè to unleavened bread. If you have a tradition, respect it as you wish, and if not, do what most speaks to you.

Another type of Spirit Vessel is the doll, and while my process (La Muñeca de Tutela) dictates how to create the doll as home to the familiar, it can also be used to house ancestral and the spirits of the departed – with their permission, of course.

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m posting this publicly so it might be of aid to those in a similar situation & in hopes that others might also be willing to lend suggestions!

Moth to the Flame

qedavathegrey:

This ritual is intended as a love-drawing spell, however
with very minor alterations it can be used to draw in nearly anything. This can
easily be done by supplementing the items placed within the jar with those more
befitting of your intent and swapping out the red candle for a hue more suited.
Live animals are used in this ritual and it is important to handle [the moth]
carefully or risk both endangering it and the “health” of your spell.

Ingredients

  • Red Candle
  • Jar & String
  • Thin Cloth – a coffee filter would also suffice, assuming it’s
not one of those newfangled conical ones
  • Moth
  • Personal Affect – an item or the hair, fluids, etc. of he/she/they
you wish to attract. If you wish to attract a more general person or concept, blend yourself an herb/spice mixture and
dust the bottom of the jar with it.  You may – and are encouraged – to do this in
addition to the personal affect so as to dictate through what focus you draw
    this person to you.
  • A pinch of sugar/a drop of honey

Optional:

  • Attraction Oil – highly
    recommended

Instructions

First and foremost, you must procure a moth. Don’t make
things too complicated. Turn on some outside lighting and (with jar in hand,
already prepped with your personal affect and/or herb mixture) wait patiently
for your guest to arrive. If you’re having some difficulty, you may find this article useful. Once the moth has arrived, simply catch it in your jar and placing the
cloth (or coffee filter, make sure to poke some holes!) over-top and fasten
either with the ring or with a bit of string. Needless to stay, be careful not
to injure the moth (specifically its delicate wings) when “jarring.” While it
is a myth that to touch a moth’s wings will prevent it from flying, handling
them is still not recommended. Take care to be gentle: you want to make sure
that the moth not only remains alive, but can survive when freed.

{Possible Herb Recipe: Coral-colored Rose Petals – the perfect mix of red for romance/lust, yellow for friendship and pink for sweetness, Lavender, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Cardamom, Rosemary and a touch of Ginger}

Once that’s out of the way, the rest is a cake-walk. Dress your candle in Attraction Oil and
carve in it the name of he/she/they whom you wish to attract
. In a dark
room, place the jar (and moth) near the candle and light. If you so choose, you
may read the following incantation or try your hand at freestyle rap, do an interpretive dance or
whatever gets you in that “attracting spirit.” Allow the candle to burn away a
bit – watching the moth incessantly fly itself into the walls of the jar, as
moths have been known to do.

In the hallowed dark –
I am a beacon,
The dancing play of
light – ‘pon silken curtain of night,
And you – on dusty wings – come calling;
I draw you in,
I draw you in,
Like the moth to the
flame,
I draw you in –
By witch’s will,
By witch’s song:
Come.

After you feel as though you’ve waiting long enough (or can’t
bear to watch that resilient moth fly head-first, kamikaze-style toward the
flame) take the jar outside (turning off that pesky outside lighting) and
letting it fly free once more. You have successfully jarred the moth’s interminable
desire to reach the flame. Collect the contents of the jar into the cloth you
used to “lid” the vessel and add to it, a drop of candlewax and a dab of honey //
pinch of sugar. Using the same string (or a freshly cut piece if you opted for
the jar-ring), bind the cloth into a small bag and place it near the
still-burning candle. Once the candle has burned out, collect the bag and carry
to draw unto you the object of your desire.
