Dream

Last night I had a dream, which featured two strange canids. Exposition: I was part of a troupe of maids tasked with cleaning this huge manor. Things happened, but they aren’t pertinent. Instead, things got very interesting after we had completed our job and leave the manor in a Handmaid’s Tale-esque fashion, two-by-two. I, being the newest member and the odd one out, was unpartnered. We crossed the clearing which surrounded the manor and entered the woods: they were very mysterious. The trees were massive and blocked almost all of the light and the forest floor was plagued by an innocuous, but enduring fog. I end up separating from the group, taking a fork in the path which led up a slight hill. Once crested, I see the sunset cutting through the trees and maybe 15 feet ahead, in the mist, I see a pack of creatures. Two types actually.

The first I was instantly transfixed by: they were huge. As high as my shoulder at least. I only saw the one, but knew there were others. It had the head and face of a spotted hyena (the same size, too, which appeared just a bit too small for the body) and the obscenely long legs and hair texture of a maned wolf. It’s coloration was a uniform cream, aside from some warm brown mottled spots down the back and up the legs. It stopped and shared my gaze for a long moment.

It was flanked by smaller dogs which possessed a blue coloration similar to an Australian cattle dog, but looked very wolf-like. They also possessed an almost fox-like quality which is hard to describe. But upon noticing my presence, one of these smaller creatures rushed at me. It tried to attack, but I placed my hands in its open mouth and held its jaws open. This lasted for a brief time before it calmed and I let it go. At which point it seemed apprehensive, but largely benign. The big creature having vanished into the mist, I turned back to the original path, but the smaller dog followed. Even when I had returned to the group, it stayed with me, guarding me.

Either of those sound at all familiar? Mundane or otherwise.
